Inspired by the front face of the silver 1921 Peace Dollar, this pencil drawing depicts Lady Liberty. I was inspired to draw this when I saw an enlarged view of the coin, and it seemed to me that the woman was depicted in the grip of some strong emotion.

Inspired by the front face of the silver 1921 Peace Dollar, this watercolor depicts Lady Liberty wearing a golden crown of light. In my interpretation, her hair is bright red, her skin is fair, and her eyes are blue - a play on the patriotic theme of "red, white and blue." I was inspired to paint this because I thought the original coin seemed to show a woman in the grip of some strong emotion, which raises the question: what strong emotion would Lady Liberty feel if she saw America today?
